VPN Suggestions?

Post by Bluey » January 2nd 2013 - 3:45 am

Hi all,

So im taking the plunge into a bit of extra security. Can anyone recommend a decent VPN service? I need something for all types of sharing. eMule, torrents, newsgroups.

Anyone currently have a VPN service?

Cheers all.

You may want to be careful with using a VPN with torrents and newsgroups because some private torrent sites and newsgroup providers might think you're account sharing and ban your account (Might be best to check with your sites and providers before hand). :wink2:

I've only briefly looked in to VPN's, here are a few that I was looking at:

Thanks for the reply Kael.

I never even considered the account sharing so will take that into consideration. Anyways up to now I have tried BTGuard and BolehVPN.

BTGuard - Signed up for £6.99 for a month. Easy to set up but just doesn't "feel" right. It has very little room for changing the VPN setting to your requirements. Low ID on eMule and lag on almost everything.

BolehVPN - $2 for 3 day trial. So far no complaints. Everything very professional, great website with tons of info and tuts, the software used has some nice options like different setings for p2p, browsing, streaming etc. High ID first time on the mule too. Will give it a few more days then decide if im going for a full yearly membership.

I think for what a VPN is and the amount that it costs isn't worth it personally. For like an extra £5 you can get a cheap server/vps and using that solely for downloading and install OpenVPN on it, might be something to look in to if you don't mind spending a bit extra. :dunno:

yeah grabbing a cheap server is probably the way to go. download everything with that, then ftp it to your home connection. frees up your home connection too (don't have to upload all the time. let the server with the big pipe take care of it for you)
the Mks should do you pretty well, and pretty cheap

Need a VPN

Post by BAOZHAI » November 7th 2018 - 12:51 pm

Ok I need a VPN as my title says it all!! My purpose is torrenting and streaming web content. Secondly I have a 30mbps connection so I don't want my speeds to go down the hill when I connect a VPN. One of my colleagues gave me this link.
How's this NordVPN or if there are other options too.... I am all ears!!!

Hey, I'm glad you decided to go for a VPN, I think it's the smartest thing to do in these times of shitty governments and every other programmer being a hacker on their free time. :)

There's quite a few good options out there, but I'd say NordVPN and ExpressVPN are the two providers that are on top of every list. I personally use Nord. I find it's features more or less the same like Express while it's a much cheaper option.

Regarding the speed Nord seems to have improved this part even more in the last few months and now I barely notice any drop (dropping for about 10-20bpms is completely normal for any provider). Let us know which one you'll end up with.

Well, probably because there are loads of shills all over the place and it's hard to know what's real these days. :-) Or is it so hard to believe that someone would recommend one of the most popular VPNs?

Which one do you use then? :lol1:
