It seems that MS is bringing the same spy ware included in Windows 10 to Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 by some harmless looking updates.
If you like your privacy you should remove those updates from your system and here is how:

by opening up an admin command prompt and entering in the following one at a time:

wusa /uninstall /kb:3068708 /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3022345 /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3075249 /norestart
wusa /uninstall /kb:3080149 /norestart

You will get a dialog box opening which will tell you either the update was un installed or not present on your system.

Now set Windows update to not install updates automatically and when those above reappear, right click on them and set them to hide.

when would they have been added?
i never update auto. just every couple of months i shut down and update.
i've looked back to about march and haven't seen them installed.
and, source? i'd hate to help a hacker remove an exploit fix.

And why would you trust a company who spies on its users, gives them a possibility to opt out from some spy ware settings, and secretly let the OS transmit everything they want to know no matter what ?

i didn't say i trust them.
but i also don't do something just because someone else says so.
i like a little elaboration to back up a story.
not saying your telling me to do something that would destroy my system, but a little more info than just remove these things would be nice.
you obviously got the info from somewhere.
and, no, I'm not trying to be argumentative. it's just my skeptical nature to want a little verification.
(although you did change my words in your quote. why? or just a mistake?)

Strange, I just hit the "quote" button and wrote my reply :dunno:

So there was no intention to put unwanted words in your posting.

Got it from some reliable guys on Tech dirt and the overclockers forum and also from a hackers collective im befriended with I must admit.

The doc pointed to two out of the four updates I mentioned before but this was for Windows 10 and im pointing at Windows 7/8 spying tools.

thanks for the elaboration. not saying you were wrong about the updates, but a little more back ground on how these were found to be a spying update would be nice. like, maybe, a write up somewhere. but thanks for pointing it out.
would you know about when these updates were put out?
and, yeah, i know, accidents happen. :hippy:

Now im sure that I did the right thing by removing those four "updates" as my Windows 8.1 when starting up always gave a message there were important must have updates.
Now with those four updates removed I get no such messages anymore because MS cannot scan my system.

Windows update still works.

can't find them on mine. i see the 30xxx series of updates starts at the end of 2014, so not too long ago.
are the update # the same for all versions of win? ( 7,8,8.1,10)
if so, I'm good and will keep a watch out.
or maybe they are only for those who have gotten the win10 update notice?
(i haven't gotten it)

If you have not received the update notification, there are many reasons.
Most likely being, Microshaft didn't like that you do not auto-update, or they find that your device is not powerful enough.
Could also be that if you do not use MSE or Windows firewall, with something that actually works, it may be that they can't access your PC for incoming. :hippy:

http://microsoft-news.com/how-to-remove ... windows-8/

The KB update is numbered as this... KB3035583

If you would like to have it, you can download it from MS directly... You most likely have automatically not allowed it, my friend.

Same goes for removing it from your tray warnings... simply go to your Windows Update and delete/uninstall that update and be careful you do not allow KB3035583 to be installed again. They say hide the update works but who knows. I have stopped mine a few weeks ago and it seems to not be coming back since then. Not really sure.

well, i have had an entry in my hosts since xp which stopped it from being invalidated. it's from an ms server.
this explains it.
ManuallyBypassWGAinXPWorking.wmv  [13.90 Mb]

wonder if that's stopping it. and judging by others reactions so far, i think I'll stay with what i have.
